Social Justice Game Jam
February 17, 2017 @ 8:00 am - February 19, 2017 @ 8:00 pm
Free – $25Every year 53% of the low income households in Washington face at least one civil legal problem without adequate legal assistance. Problems can range from predatory lending to foreclosure to various kinds of debt. There are many legal advocates helping those in need, however due to the volume of potential cases not everyone gets the help they need.
This is where you come in. The Social Justice Game Jam is one of the first game jams aimed at creating games that address this problem. In this event we will be bringing together game developers and legal advocates to collaborate and create games that either directly teach skills or educate the public about current issues.
The theme for this event is social justice and civil legal aid, and therefore games will in some way promote awareness of or address some of the issues.
Some examples of issues include:
- Debt Repayment
- Foreclosure
- Wage Theft
- Veteran’s Benefits
- Fraud and Predatory Lending
It’s completely ok if you don’t have any background knowledge on any of these issues. There will be legal professionals participating in this jam that will be able to bring you up to speed.
For those of you who prefer you games analog instead of digital we have you covered too, there will be materials to create your board or card games. If you aren’t familiar with the process some experts from PlaytestNW will be on hand to assist you.
Hosted by Northwest Justice Project and LSNTAP
